A near-perfect floor routine highlighted by “clash dance” and jaw-dropping tosses propelled the multi-titled University of Perpetual Help Perps back on top of the Samsung-NCAA cheerleading competition on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan City. Sporting a mix of silky white and maroon suits, the 30-man squad danced its way to an eye-popping, awe-inspiring performance to dethrone.
Jose Rizal University and regain supremacy in the tournament after falling to a dismal fifth last season. The Perps have actually won three straight titles since 2005, but fell short last year after a series of miscues.
This time, however, it was different story. Combining dazzling aerial acrobatics and appealing dance moves to the tune of today’s hottest music like “Hush Hush” by the Pussycat Dolls and “Wait for You” by Elliot Yamin, the Perps scored 335.5 points to romp away with the top purse of P90,000 and Samsung cellular phones for each member of the squad.
Jose Rizal University finished second with 311 points, to pocket the second place of P55,000 while guest team Emilio Aguinaldo College emerged a surprise third by edging San Sebastian, 244-243, for the P45,000 prize.
