Junior Altas bag first NCAA general championship

University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) Junior Altas topped the overall sports discipline at National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 94 for the 2018-2019 for their first ever General Championship since joining the oldest collegiate league in 1984.

Junior Altas gained 365 points to reign supreme in the league and edge the Five-time General Champion San Beda U Red Cubs of just 1.5 pts and finished runner up to Las Piñas City-based athletes on their 363.5 points and denying the Red Cubs a six-peat overall champions.

The Tony Tamayo owned school reigned in Chess, Indoor Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Track and Field to earned the 50points each, placed 1st runner up in swimming for 40 points, 3rd runner up in table tennis and football for 30 pts each, earned 20 points in basketball and lawn tennis, 15 points in badminton and 10 points in taekwondo.

Arellano Braves placed 2nd runner up in overall with 302.5 points.

Awarding ceremony of the General Champions will be on March 28, 2019, during the NCAA Cheerleading Championship at Mall of Asia (MoA) Arena in Pasay City.

Chris Pondoyo of Junior Altas Chess Team, Hero Austria of Indoor Volleyball, Noel Micheal Kampton of Beach volleyball and Jerick ‘Toto’ Arzaga was this Season MVPs of their sports divisions, while FIDE Master Roel Abelgas of Chess Team, Sandy Rieta of both Indoor and Outdoor Volleyballs and Trece Academia was adjudged as Coaches of the Year.

Junior ALTAS Tracksters crowned NCAA Season 94 Champs

Perpetual Junior Altas Track and Field Team finally barge their first plum in Athletics since they enter the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) in 1984.

Junior Altas Tracksters collected 11 Golds, 8 Silvers and 4 Bronze to emerged as NCAA Season 94 Junior Division Champions as they garnered 1,044 Total Points, far behind second runner EAC-ICA Brigadiers with 392.5 point and San Beda U Red Cubs with 384.5 points.

Season’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) , Grade 12 coed Jerick ‘Toto’ Arzaga collected Golds in 400m Hurdles, 110m Hurdles, 4x100m Relay and Bronze on 200m Run, Samal Island native Russel Ricaforte registers Breaking New Record in Discuss Throw with 42.89 meters (Gold) and Shot Put (Gold), Warren Villaroza set New Record in Long Jump in his 6.88 meters jump, Gold in 4×100 Relay and Silver in 200meters run; Jommel Gonzales set new Record in Steeple Chase for Gold Medal, Gold in 1500meters run and Silver in 800meters run.

Grade 10 Ernie Calipay registers New High Jump Record in NCAA in his 1.98 meters high for Gold Medal and another athlete jumper Emmanuel Medrano collected Silvers in Long Jump and High Jump and Bronze in Triple Jump; John Paul Sarmiento throws 65 meters long on Javelin for NCAA New Record.

Jerimiah Cortez got Gold in 100meters run, Bronze in 400m run and Gold in 4×100 Relay, John Paul Pagatpat Gold in 4×100 Relay and Silver in 400m Hurdles; Aljohn Rabina got Silver on Triple Jump, Silver medalist James Ceballos, breaks NCAA Record in 400m dash; Mark Vincent Quiambao, Gold in 4×100 Relay and Silver in 100meters run, Lexmar Cupin won Bronze in Javelin Throw.

“I am greatful, finally nakuha din namin ang Champion sa Juniors ng NCAA, am very proud of you guys, nagbunga din ang paghihirap natin sa trainings natin araw araw.” Coach Trece Academia said in interview.

A Guide to the “Universal Access to QUALITY Tertiary Education Act of 2017”

With RA 10931, FREE education is NOW possible!
The law made it possible for students to pursue quality college education without paying tuition and other school fees in 112 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and 78 CHED-recognized Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs). It also allows students to enroll in technical-vocational education and training (TVET) programs in public training institutions for free.
It also provides financial aid to students from the poorest of the poor households as well as loan programs for students who need additional finances to support their tertiary education.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who CAN avail of the TES?

The priority beneficiaries for the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) are:

  • Continuing ESGP-PA Scholars in the SUCs effective AY 2019 – 2020
  • Students who are part of households included in the Listahanan 2.0 of DSWD, ranked according to the estimated per capita household income
  • Student not part of the Listahanan 2.0, ranked according to estimated per capita household income based on submitted documentation of proof of income to be determined by the UniFAST Board

Provided further, that such prioritization shall not apply to Filipino students in cities and municipalities with no existing SUC or LUC campus.

What are the conditions for the TES grant?

TES grantees can only enroll in the following:

For Higher Education:

  • Undergraduate course/program in any SUC campus that has Board approval;
  • Undergraduate courses with Certificates of Program Compliance (COPCs) in CHED-recognized LUCs; and
  • Undergraduate courses with COPCs in private institutions listed in the UniFAST registry of Quality-Assured institutions and Programs.

For TVET:

  • TVET program with Certificate of Program Registration (CoPR) and officially listed in the TESDA Compendium of Registered Program in any public or private technical-vocational institution (TVI)

Beneficiaries enrolled in higher education programs will enjoy a full academic-year of the grant amount, subject to yearly renewal based on their continued studies.

Benefeciaries enrolled in TVET programs will enjoy a full-year grant amount or the amount equivalent to the recommended period of completion of the program, whichever is shorter.(Section 24-c IRR of RA 10931)

Who CANNOT avail of the TES?

The following students are NOT ELIGIBLE to avail of TES benefits (Section 28. IRR of RA 10931):

For Higher Education

  • Students enrolled in programs and/or institutions not included in the Registry of CHED-recognized programs and institutions;
  • Students who have exceeded the Maximum Residency Rule (MRR) of their program.

For TVET:

  • Learners enrolled in TVET programs not in the Registry of TESDA
  • Learners enrolled in TESDA-registered programs in any TVI who availed of government-funded StuFAPS other than Free TVET.

What are the benefits of the TES?

Private HEIs and TVIs

Students enrolled in private HEIs and TVIs are entitled to the following benefits (Sections 23 and 24. IRR of RA 10931):

  • Tuition and other school fees, which shall be equivalent to the tuition and other school fees of the nearest SUC and State-run TVI in their respective area.
  • Allowance for books, supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous personal expenses, including a reasonable allowance for the documented rental or purchase of personal computer or laptop, and other education-related expenses
  • Allowance for room and board costs incurred by the student.

Are there additional benefits for TES beneficiaries in a program requiring professional license or certification?

Yes. Students enrolled in programs requiring professional license or certification will be given the one-time cost of obtaining the first professional credentials or qualifications, which may include notarial fees, review classes fees, insurance premium fees and documentation fees (Section 23-e IRR of RA 10931).


The week-long celebration of UPHSD’s founding anniversary ended with an International Conference on Moralogy, held on February 16, 2019 at the Amphitheater, 3rd Floor Tamayo Towers. The Conference centered on gratitude as a virtue, highlighting the definitions, cross-cultural studies, and its Japanese and Filipino concepts.

The resource persons were distinguished professors of Reitaku University, one of the institutions that promote high moral education in Japan. They were Dr. Osamu Nakayama, President; Dr, Kazunobu Horiuchi Vice President for Student Affairs; and Dr. Kazuhiro Miyashita, Associate Professor. Their local counterpart was Dr. Gabriel Archemedez Flores, Linkages Director who presented the highlights of the research he made with Dr. Belinda Conde, Research & Development Director.

One of the highlights of the Conference was the conferment of Honorary Professor Emeritus to Dr. Osamu Nakayama for his meritorious contributions in the moral and ethical education of students according to the tradition and legacy handed down by Dr. Chikuro Hiroike, founder and initiator of the Institute of Moralogy.

The event concluded with the signing of the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding between UPHSD and Reitaku University in consideration of expanding the basis of friendship and educational exchange.

The 2nd International Conference on Moralogy was sponsored by the Linkages Office, Research and Development Center and the Graduate School.
