23 Student inmates earned degree in Perpetual Bilibid Graduation Rites 2019.
MUNTINLUPA CITY. – 23 inmate students inside Medium Security Compound in Camp Sampaguita, New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in this city finished their 4 year degree course inside the penitentiary, last, May 9, 2019 during the 30th University of Perpetual Help Bilibid Extension School commencement Exercise at College Building.
On 89 graduates of Batch 2019, 23 of them finished degree of Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, 42 finished Computer Hardware Servicing course and 22 completed the Senior High School program.
This year’s guest of honor and speaker Director General Nicanor Faeldon of Bureau of Correction (BuCor) speaks before the student graduates and relatives of the inmate graduates at the newly erected college building covered court.
“This learning institution really helped inmate to reformed. Dapat lahat ganito para magtiwala ang mga investors to put up business here at NBP.” Director General Faeldon said in his speech during the program.
“We need to have an alternative job to earn a living here inside this institution para mabuhay ang inyong mga pamilya sa labas at ng hindi kayo makaisip ng masamang gawain sa dito sa loob ng piitin.” Faeldon added.
“The BuCor is now looking for a business industry that will put business here in jail to make every inmate a productive one.” Faeldon added more.
Bilibid Extension School is a comprehensive program of the university seeks to help in rehabilitation of medium risk prisoners through education, skills, training and development, which now produced 564 graduates since it established in 1985 by UPH Chairman of the Board Dr/BGEN Antonio L. Tamayo.
The Bilibid Extension School in Camp Sampaguita is one of the Perpetual’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, together with the Mangyan Mission School in Sito Lawanan, Barangay Lumangbayan, Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro.

A group of CIHM students from the UPH Molino and Calamba campuses joined the 1st STR Asia Pacific Market Study contest in Hotel ICON Hong Kong last May 21, 2019. The team was chosen as finalist and ranked 6th overall. Top 3 winning teams were from the Michigan State University in the USA, Oxford Brookes University in the UK, and Seneca College in Canada.
Contestants were asked to present a hotel industry analysis of a particular city.
Our UPH participants, who presented about the Phuket hotel market, were Jeffrey Avila (BS Tourism, UPH Calamba), Patricia Mae Diaz (BS HRM major in Culinary Arts and Kitchen Operations, UPH Molino) and Lowryne Prado (BS Tourism, UPH Molino). Lead coach was CIHM Dean Maria Cecilia Remanente of UPH Molino.

HIGH HOPE FOR JUNIOR ALTAS BASKETBALL ON NCAA SEASON 95.
LAS PIÑAS CITY. – Perpetual Junior Altas Basketball Head Coach Myk Saguiguit optimistic that his squad will show a good character this National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 95, which unfurls on July 7, Sunday at Mall of Asia (MoA) Arena in Pasay City.
Rookie and Transfery laden Altalettes, who shown impressive win during the Fil Oil Pre-Season Cup defeating UST Cubs, FEU Diliman, JRU Light Bombers and La Salle Greenhills in elims.
Holdovers Emman Galman, Edzel Galoy, Yuki Kawamura, Jearico Nuñez, Shin Dela Cruz, Kyle Cuevas and Shawn Orgo will inspire the new recruits to add more teeth on defense and offense of the Las Piñas City based ballers.
Prize catch John Escalante from Ateneo de Zamboanga and two former Adamson Baby Falcons Mark Banaticla and John Vincent Berwite will be a big help on the based line post.
Other new recruits are 6’5 center Johndel Balazuela, Alfonso Manuel, beanpole shooter Angelo Gelsano, Jose Mary Ignacio and Gabriel Angeles.
Junior Altas finished 5th to 6th placed last season with identical 9-9 win loss record together with LPU GenTri.

John Marx Anastacio came through with an excellent performance to bag the Under 30’s gold in thrilling fashion at the close of the rapid competition of the 20th Asean Age Group Chess Championships 2019 at the Golden Mandalay Hotel and Hotel Hazel in Mandalay City, Myanmar on Monday. June 17, 2019.
Anastacio, a first year College BS Accountancy student at the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) Las Piñas City campus outsmarted former solo leader fellow Filipino Jhoemar Mendiogarin in the seventh and final round.
Anastacio, one of the top players of Altas Chess Team under national coach International Master (IM) Roel Abelgas and coach Kenneth Martin Rovillos was tied with Mendiogarin with 6.0 points but got the higher tie-break score to win the Open Under-30 division.
However, both, Anastacio and Mendiogarin, both won the individual gold medal according to International Arbiter Wilfredo Neri. Anastacio, Mendiogarin and Woman Fide Master Michelle Yaon combined total 15.5 points to bag the gold in the team competition.
“I’m overwhelmed and near-speechless right now because this is my best finish in an international competition. I really want to win my last game and all the hard work paid off,” said Anastacio.
“First I would like to thank God for giving me talent. Second, I would also my parents, UPHSD Family, Altas Chess Team, especially President Anthony Tamayo and Chaiman Tony Tamayo for their support, national coach International Master Roel Abelgas, Coach Kenneth Martin Rovillos, who helped me refine my moves,” he added. “Without them this victory would not be possible.” *
Sharing the limelight is International Master elect Eric Labog Jr., a Grade 10 pupil of University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) in Las Pinas City split the point with Dang Anh Quoc of Vietnam to create a three-way tie for first place along with compariots Christian Mark Daluz and Fide Master Stephen Rome Pangilinan. Daluz settled for a truce with countryman Alfonzo Louis Olendo as well Pangilinan halving the point with Bui Duc Huy of Vietnam in the Under 18 year old division.

Las Pinas City based tossers mentored by multi-titled coaches Sandy Rieta and Jason Sapin won in set 1 and 2 (25-20 25-18) and loss in set 3 (20-25) and handled the set-4 in easy win (25-19) to bags their second staright crown in said tourney sponsored by Imus City LGU.
