Last 9 July 2024, a group Deans and Office Heads visited the Maynilad La Mesa Eco Park Water Treatment Plant 2 located at Balara, Quezon City. The activity was done in line with the objectives of UPHSD’s MOU with Maynilad that was made last 24 May 2024. The participants were: Dr. Belinda Conde, Director of the UPHSD Research and Development Center; Dean Ma. Imelda Javier of the College of Nursing; Dr. Ma. Victoria Mendoza, Dean of the College of Pharmacy; Dean Lily Aileen Alinao of the College of Medical Technology; Engr Lorena Ilagan, Dean of the College of Engineering; Dean Evelyn Antiporda of the College of International Tourism and Hospitality; Dr. Raul Trinidad, Dean of the College of Criminology; Engr. Edilberto Matibag, Manager of the General Services Department; and Engr. Aileen Galvez, Pollution Control Officer.

 

The activity lasted for the entire day. The highlights of the schedule include: a) the presentation of the brief story of the Philippine Water Sector and Maynilad Water Transformation; b) tour on the basic water operations; c) tour of the water laboratory; and d) discussion on possible joint research undertakings as well as sharing of initiatives for effective water preservation and conservation.

As part of the partnership agreement with Naniwa High School, last May 17, around 20 students and officials of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA visited Nabari City, Japan. The students who are enrolled in Nihongo enjoyed the activities like walking in ninja costumes and interacting with local students. They were impressed by the city’s beauty and hospitality. The activity aimed to foster cultural exchange and widen the students’ perspectives as they pursue their careers in life.

Lecture on Vietnamese Culture

Last 14 May 2024, the Van Lang University’s Manager of External Linkages Relations, Dr. Le Thi Minh Tam, gave the students of UPHSD a lecture on Vietnamese Culture. Van Lang University has been a long-time academic partner of the University. The affair was jointly sponsored by the College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management and the College of Business Administration and Accountancy. The lecture was done in preparation for the forthcoming Management and Tourism Summit to held at the University of Van Lang this coming November 2024. The lecture introduced UPHSD students to the richness of Vietnamese culture and its expressions.

Maynilad Water Academy

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) was signed by the UPHSD and the Maynilad Water Academy last 17 April 2024. It marked the beginning of partnership focused on water education, fostering faculty and student development and promotion of the environment. The affair was graced by the presence of Ms. Rodora N. Gamboa, Executive Director, Maynilad Water Academy, Mr. Oliver B. Sta. Ana, Head, Maynilad Academic Services and Mr. Juan Joselito Didachus A. Jalandoni, Maynilad HR Manager. UPHSD was represented by Dr. Arnaldo S. De Guzman, School Director, Deans Eve Antiporda and Aileen Alinao, Dr. Belinda T. The UPHSDLP team represented by the Research, Director Dr. Belinda Conde, Dean Imelda Javier of the College of Nursing, Dean Lily Aileen Alinao, College of Med Tech and Dr. Ma. Victoria E. Mendoza of the College of Pharmacy attended the 3-days i2CANProtect II – 2nd Iloilo International Conference on /advanced Natural Products Technologies and AuRIns-USA Bilateral Conference at the University of San Agustin. This is the first activity of the university under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) forged with the University of San Agustin.

Another activity made was the visit to the research institute and the Med Tech and Pharmacy laboratories of the USA which was led by Dr. Doralyn Dalisay, a faculty and member of the C2B2.

The topics discussed focused on the biology, chemistry and pharmacology of natural products; marine and terrestrial sources; omics technologies such as the gene, protein and metabolome; industrial scale ups and enabling technologies in instrumentation and assays.

On the final note, Dr. Dalisay suggested that the USA together with its partners UPHSDLP and De la Salle Dasmariñas will form a consortium to pave way for more faculty and student engagement in research.  A concept paper will be formulated as regard to the consortium which will be held at the end of school year 2023-2024.  It will be a research forum for both faculty and students which will tentatively be held at the De la Salle University in Cavite.

UPHSD AND VLU JOINT MANAGEMENT AND TOURISM SUMMIT

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Las Piñas and Van Lang University is proposing to have a Joint Management and Tourism Summit on May 26-29, 2024, at Van Lang University, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The summit will feature speakers in management and tourism who will give insights on the prevalent and current issues and topics in the business arena. The summit will likewise feature student research presentations from other partner institutions. Initially, there will be four breakout sessions during the Student Research Presentation. This number will be modified according to the number of students who will apply to present.
