The\u00a0University of Perpetual Help Rizal System\u00a0<\/strong>established the first institutional ethics committee in October 2004 through the initiative and recommendation of Dr. Aretas P. Singson-Alday, Dean JFSM and with recommendation of Dr. Rowena Auxillos, UPHRMC Medical Director. The aim was to ensure that the clinical researches conducted at JONELTA Foundation School of Medicine and the University of Perpetual Help Rizal Medical Center conform to ICH GCP guidelines. In January 2006 the University of Perpetual Help Rizal Corporate Center was established. The Institutional Ethics Committee initially formed in 2004 was restructured to become the\u00a0University of Perpetual Help System-Institutional Ethics Review Board\u00a0<\/strong>under the Corporate Office for Research specifically the Corporate Vice President for Research.<\/p>

Since 2006, the objective of the\u00a0University of Perpetual Help System-Institutional Ethics Review Board\u00a0<\/strong>was to ensure the protection of the rights, safety and well-being of human subjects involved in health related research and to provide public assurance of that protection. It believes in and adheres to the basic ethical principles \u2013 respect for the person and his\/her autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice. It is adherent to international guidelines such as the Declaration of Helsinki, CIOMS International Guidelines, ICH-GCP and WHO Guidelines and the national laws and guidelines such as the PNHRS Act of 2013, the National Ethical Guidelines for Health Research, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Administrative Order 001 Series of 2007, which requires ethics review of all health research involving human participants; the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Administrative Order 001 Series 2008, which requires all Ethics Review Committees (ERB)\/Institutional Review Committees (IRB) to register with the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB); and, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Memorandum Order 34 Series 2007 in support of the DOST memorandum, which requires all academic institutions engaged in human research to establish ethics review boards\/committees.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The\u00a0University of Perpetual Help System-Institutional Ethics Review Board\u00a0<\/strong>has been granted Level III Ethics Review Committee Accreditation No. L3-2014-015-01 effective November 25, 2014 until November 25, 2017 and has been re-accredited and granted Level III Research Ethics Committee Accreditation No. L3-2018-015-02 effective June 1, 2018 until May 31, 2022 by the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB).<\/p>

The\u00a0University of Perpetual Help System-Institutional Ethics Review Board<\/strong>\u00a0has been granted recognition by the Strategic Initiative for Developing Capacity in Ethical Review \u2013 Forum for Ethical Review Committees in Asia and the Western Pacific Region\u00a0(SIDCER-FERCAP)\u00a0last November 26, 2014 during the 14th<\/sup>\u00a0FERCAP General Assembly, Tagaytay City, Philippines.\u00a0 SIDCER-FERCAP renewed its recognition to\u00a0University of Perpetual Help System-Institutional Ethics Review Board<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0November 22, 2017<\/strong>\u00a0during the 17th<\/sup>\u00a0FERCAP General Assembly in New Delhi, India.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
