Avionics technicians may find themselves involved in testing, calibrating, troubleshooting and repairing avionics instruments. The two main career options in avionics repair and maintenance are as follows:<\/p><\/li><li><p align=\"justify\"><strong><u>Aircraft Mechanics and Service Technicians<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p align=\"justify\">Aircraft mechanics and service technicians repair the mechanical and structural parts of an aircraft, including the wings, brakes and electrical systems. Some are specialists and work on just one type of aircraft. They also may conduct inspections of aircraft. Those who do not hold certifications can work as repairmen, performing only certain tasks at a specific place of employment.<\/p><\/li><li><p align=\"justify\"><strong><u>Avionics Technician<\/u><\/strong><\/p><p align=\"justify\">An avionics technician works on the various components of an aircraft that are used for navigation, flight and propulsion control, instrumental landings, weather monitoring and communications. Their work can include installing instrument panels and software.
