On August 13, 2025, the Junior Philippine Computer Society (JPCS) – Las Piñas Chapter launched its first session of the Peer Tutoring Series: CODE PTP, a hands-on tutorial on Java basics held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event gathered enthusiastic CCS freshmen who were guided by their peers in learning fundamental Java features and coding concepts. What made the activity special was that the tutors themselves were third-year Computer Science students, creating an environment where learning felt approachable, collaborative, and encouraging.
The session was led by Ms. Arnica N. Arturo and Mr. John Rainier Bartolata, who generously shared their knowledge and experience as student-tutors. With the support of Dean Jenniline D. Eya, Adviser Ms. Ma. Teresa Plastina, CCS faculty members, and JPCS officers, the event became a strong example of collaboration and shared responsibility in learning. Freshmen participants not only gained technical skills but also experienced the value of teamwork and mentorship, making the tutorial an engaging and impactful experience.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. By fostering peer-to-peer learning, the program demonstrated how students can empower one another to succeed academically while cultivating leadership and cooperation. It also highlighted how community-driven efforts in education can build confidence, improve competencies, and nurture a culture of support that benefits both tutors and learners.
