SITE VISIT AT PANGASINAN- DOCUMENTATION TREE PLANTING

Planting trees is one of the easiest and most sustainable ways to make a positive impact on the environment.

Today we see a lot of bare forest, or deforested. Deforestation is the removal or cutting down of trees and forests to make way for human uses such as agriculture, housing, commercial and other development. When deforestation occurs, much of the carbon stored in trees is released back into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide, contributing to climate change. To help in mitigating this problem is to plant trees.  We need to plant more trees.  Get involved in tree planting initiatives in your community or through global organizations.

On January 6, 2023, the Community Extension Services (CES) team arrived at 4:30am at Daang Katutubo, Barangay Mapita, Aguilar, Pangasinan for a site inspection of the proposed tree planting activity of Dr. Vic Raciles, Prefect of Discipline and Research Assistant. Dr Raciles is the project leader of this tree planting activity in partnership with the community extension services.

During the site visit they had the opportunity to talk to the key people behind this activity.  They were Mr. Tomas Mabitasan, Representative of DENR, Pangasinan; Dr. Grace Mabitasan, Vice President; Atty. Liezl Villanueva, Legal Counsel; and Dr. Nora Angeles, Honorary Member and Sponsor of VMV Forest Greener’s Association.  They discussed the importance of tree planting in their areas, the size of the land, the number of trees to be planted, the varieties of fine Trees and mangroves and their willingness to cooperate with various environmental government agencies.

After the discussion, the team went out into the field for an inspection. The area is so grassy, deforested and bare in the middle.  The land needs to be planted with trees because trees contribute to their environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, improving climate, conserving water, conserving soil and supporting wildlife.

We experienced a foggy, cloudy day and very cold weather.

The team composed of Dr. Vic Raciles, Project Head, Tree Planting Activity, Dr. Josephine P. Dasig, Head, and Maria Loida S. Benosa, Program Assistant both from the Community Extension Services, Engr. Alvin P. Santos, Head, and Safety Officer Randy Isnari, both from the Safety and Health Department, Security Guard Alvin Simon, Security Department, and Nick Siababa, Driver, Motorpool.
