Peer-to-Peer Tutorial Sessions: Episode 2

On September 15, 2025, the Junior Philippine Computer Society (JPCS) – Las Piñas Chapter rolled out Episode 2 of its Peer Tutoring Series: CUT! CODE PTP, held from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The session brought together CCS freshmen and sophomores eager to strengthen their knowledge in Discrete Mathematics and Advanced Java Fundamentals. What made the event more meaningful was that the tutors themselves were fellow CCS students, showing how peer-to-peer learning can build confidence and make complex lessons more relatable. The student-tutors, Ms. Arnica N. Arturo and Mr. John Rainier Bartolata for Advanced Java, and Mr. Charlie V. Makayan and Mr. Mark Manuel M. Ponce for Discrete Mathematics, generously shared their time and expertise. Their efforts, supported by Dean Jenniline D. Eya, Adviser Ms. Ma. Teresa Plastina, faculty members, and JPCS officers, created a dynamic environment where learning was interactive, collaborative, and inspiring. The event showcased not only academic growth but also leadership and service within the CCS student community. This initiative strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. By empowering students to teach and support one another, the peer tutoring program promoted inclusivity, collaboration, and shared responsibility in education, proving that learning becomes more impactful when the community grows together.

On August 13, 2025, the Junior Philippine Computer Society (JPCS) – Las Piñas Chapter launched its first session of the Peer Tutoring Series: CODE PTP, a hands-on tutorial on Java basics held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event gathered enthusiastic CCS freshmen who were guided by their peers in learning fundamental Java features and coding concepts. What made the activity special was that the tutors themselves were third-year Computer Science students, creating an environment where learning felt approachable, collaborative, and encouraging. The session was led by Ms. Arnica N. Arturo and Mr. John Rainier Bartolata, who generously shared their knowledge and experience as student-tutors. With the support of Dean Jenniline D. Eya, Adviser Ms. Ma. Teresa Plastina, CCS faculty members, and JPCS officers, the event became a strong example of collaboration and shared responsibility in learning. Freshmen participants not only gained technical skills but also experienced the value of teamwork and mentorship, making the tutorial an engaging and impactful experience. Collaboration Events

On June 7, 2025, the Junior Philippine Computer Society (JPCS) – UPHSD Las Piñas Chapter proudly partnered with PUP-ASCII as game creators for the event IQ League. This milestone marked JPCS’s first-ever collaboration with an external student organization from another campus, symbolizing a breakthrough in building connections beyond UPHSD. The partnership not only highlighted the creativity and technical expertise of CCS students but also reflected their commitment to collaboration and innovation. The event showcased the value of teamwork across institutions, where students combined their knowledge and skills to create meaningful and engaging outputs. For CCS student participants, this collaboration became more than just a project, it was an opportunity to expand their horizons, share best practices, and strengthen camaraderie with peers from another university. It also opened doors for new learning experiences and potential partnerships that can further enhance their academic and professional growth. ALTA Media Icon Awards Voting Launch

The ALTA Media Icon Awards (AMIA) voting launch took place on May 14, 2025, at the New College Building Lobby, spearheaded by third-year Communication students under the guidance of AB Communication Chairperson Ms. Rowena G. Morta. The event energized the campus with vibrant student participation and a strong sense of media pride, spotlighting excellence in communication and creative work produced by and for the university community. After a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, AMIA finally made its much-anticipated comeback. Its return was made even more significant as it coincided with the 50th Founding Anniversary of the University, making the revival a highlight of the year-long celebration. To heighten the excitement, the first 100 voters received limited-edition AMIA pins, turning the launch into more than just a voting event—it became a celebration of shared identity, unity, and pride for the KAMASKOM community. The energy, symbolism, and participation reflected the students’ unwavering passion for media and their commitment to recognizing outstanding communicators who inspire and lead through storytelling.

Communication students participated in a hands-on radio tour and workshop on April 22, 2025, at the RMN Broadcast Center in Greenhills, San Juan. Hosted by iFM 93.9 Manila and DZXL 558, the activity provided students with a unique behind-the-scenes experience into the world of radio production and broadcast storytelling. The session was led by renowned radio personalities DJ Reyna Ivana and DJ Papi Bonjing, who shared valuable insights on radio drama conceptualization, voice casting, and the art of engaging audio narratives. Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, students gained a deeper appreciation for the creativity, technique, and teamwork that power radio programming. The workshop served as a meaningful exposure activity for future media practitioners, bridging classroom learning with real-world industry practices—ultimately inspiring the next generation of communicators to explore the dynamic world behind the microphone.
