12Tth TEST OF PRACTICAL COMPETENCY IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY (TOPCIT) EXAMINATIONS FOR HEIs IN THE PHILIPPINES

On June 2, 2025, the 12th TOPCIT examination was successfully conducted online, with participation from various universities across the Philippines. The assessment provided an opportunity for students, including those from the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, College of Computer Studies, to evaluate their strengths and areas for improvement in relation to industry-required IT skills. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to preparing learners for the challenges and opportunities of the digital era. By aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, the TOPCIT exam ensures that students gain equal access to quality digital competency development. Through this benchmark, graduates are equipped with the essential skills and confidence needed to thrive in the IT sector while also contributing to innovation, productivity, and sustainable growth in the country. Ultimately, the TOPCIT assessment is more than just an evaluation, it is a stepping stone toward building future-ready professionals. Kwarto-Kwento- Theater Arts Presentation

Third-year AB Communication students brought stories to life through their original theatrical production “Kwarto-Kwento,” staged on May 22, 2025, at Rooms 315 and 316 of the New College Building. Presented as a culminating requirement for their Introduction to Theater course, the production highlighted the students’ creativity, collaboration, and emerging mastery of stage performance. Rooted in the spirit of storytelling and theatrical discipline, “Kwarto-Kwento” reflected their ability to translate emotion and narrative into live expression—marking a meaningful milestone in their academic and artistic journey.

ALTA Media Icon Awards Voting Launch

The ALTA Media Icon Awards (AMIA) voting launch took place on May 14, 2025, at the New College Building Lobby, spearheaded by third-year Communication students under the guidance of AB Communication Chairperson Ms. Rowena G. Morta. The event energized the campus with vibrant student participation and a strong sense of media pride, spotlighting excellence in communication and creative work produced by and for the university community. After a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, AMIA finally made its much-anticipated comeback. Its return was made even more significant as it coincided with the 50th Founding Anniversary of the University, making the revival a highlight of the year-long celebration. To heighten the excitement, the first 100 voters received limited-edition AMIA pins, turning the launch into more than just a voting event—it became a celebration of shared identity, unity, and pride for the KAMASKOM community. The energy, symbolism, and participation reflected the students’ unwavering passion for media and their commitment to recognizing outstanding communicators who inspire and lead through storytelling.

CINEMASKOM 2025

CINEMASKOM 2025 brought three days of compelling storytelling to life, with student-produced film screenings held from May 13 to 15 at Room 124 of the New College Building. For just PHP 40, audiences were treated to seven original short films that showcased a range of creative narratives, genres, and student perspectives—culminating in a full-house final day of screenings. The celebration concluded with the highly anticipated CINEMASKOM Awards Night on May 26 at the Ernesto Palanca Crisostomo Hall. The standout film Through the Eyes of Athena by Paola P. Rigor of Memento Productions was awarded Best Picture, earning top honors among a field of strong contenders. In line with the year’s theme Gold / Ginto, the awards night celebrated cinematic excellence and golden storytelling. The evening was graced by special guests including Ms. Rowena G. Morta, Ms. Konie Rivera, and Mr. Edzel Rebamontan—a proud Mass Communication alumnus—making it a night of elegance, recognition, and pride for the KAMASKOM community.

Communication students participated in a hands-on radio tour and workshop on April 22, 2025, at the RMN Broadcast Center in Greenhills, San Juan. Hosted by iFM 93.9 Manila and DZXL 558, the activity provided students with a unique behind-the-scenes experience into the world of radio production and broadcast storytelling. The session was led by renowned radio personalities DJ Reyna Ivana and DJ Papi Bonjing, who shared valuable insights on radio drama conceptualization, voice casting, and the art of engaging audio narratives. Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, students gained a deeper appreciation for the creativity, technique, and teamwork that power radio programming. The workshop served as a meaningful exposure activity for future media practitioners, bridging classroom learning with real-world industry practices—ultimately inspiring the next generation of communicators to explore the dynamic world behind the microphone.
