COMMUNITY EXTENSION SERVICES PHILOSOPHY

The Community Extension Services (CES) believes in the dignity of man and the development of his potentials to the optimum. The program further believes that such development could be attained through the involvement of socially conscious students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff in community services.

COMMUNITY EXTENSION SERVICES VISION

The UPHSD Community Extension Services (CES) is a dynamic, facilitative and integrative office that assists people to become physically and mentally healthy, especially those in the depressed communities in the city of Las Piñas and its environs.

COMMUNITY EXTENSION SERVICES MISSION

To effect an environment supportive of the development of self-reliant, healthy, and socially responsible  citizens of Las Piñas, and the Philippines in general.

Quality Policy

The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) Community Extension Services is committed to the delivery of relevant, responsive, inclusive and sustainable HELPERS programs and services towards the progressive improvement of the quality of life of the identified social development partners of UPHSD.

Quality Objectives

The University of Perpetual Help System-DALTA shall:

  1. provide an enabling environment for all members of the academic and support groups to develop and implement sustainable programs and services that will respond to the needs of the community;
  2. strengthen partnership with the government and non-government institutions in building sustainable, empowered and self-reliant community; and
  3. serve as catalyst for honing the identity of Perpetualites as Helpers of God.

Dr. Josephine P. Dasig, the head of the Community Extension Services served as the resource speaker on the seminar entitled “You and Your Emotions”.

Dr. Raul C. Trinidad the dean of the College of Criminology Talked about the “Criminal Justice System” in the Philippines.

Engr. Alvin P. Santos, the head of the Safety and Health Department and Safety Officer 3 discussed the “Fire Safety and Prevention” to the students of UPHSD-BES

Safety Officer 3 Randy Isnari led the discussion on the  “Basic Life Support” Seminar.

The Grade School CES Coordinator, Ms. Jean J. Magalong is showing the English alphabet to the kids of the partner community which is the Samahang Magkakapit Bisig ng Depressed Area, Inc. in Guijo St. Manuela IV-B, Pamplona 3, Las Piñas City

Ms. Janica Bea B. Ayad, SHS CES Coordinator, and Teacher Jean are demonstrating to the children how to make the sound of letter Aa.

The Senior High School student volunteers together with Ms. Joyce Lalunio also assisted in the activity.

The College of Nursing in cooperation of the Philippine Red Cross Las Piñas Chapter had the awareness campaign named “Kahalagahan ng Tubig sa Panahon ng Krisis”

The student volunteers from the College of Nursing led the Seminar by demonstrating the proper utilization of water.

The student volunteers highlighted the importance of Water conservation specifically during Summer time.

This year 5th Pasko sa Pebrero was brought and held in Guijo Community.

Ms. Janica Bea B. Ayad, the SHS CES Coordinator, facilitated the program by being the Emcee.  The program started with an invocation led by Ms. Loida S. Benosa, the Program Assistant of CES, Ms. Jean J. Magalong, the Grade School CES Coordinator welcomed all the volunteers.

The training and seminar was attended by 20 faculty of UPHSD-Bilibid Extension School.

Mr. Jose Ricardo B. Alviedo, University Registrar, oriented the participants on the document and academic requirements of the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) students.

The Summer Creativity Enhancement for Children was initiated by the DALTA-JONELTA Foundation, Inc. (DJFI) headed by Dr. Ma. Consuelo C. Reyes, Executive Director/MAEQ in partnership with the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA-Community Extension Services (UPHSD-CES) headed by Dr. Josephine P. Dasig.

The Summer Creativity Enhancement for Children is designed for the 3 to 6 years old kids of SAMABIDA, Inc. at Guijo Compd, Manuela IV-B Subd., Pamplona 3, Las Piñas City.

The Dental Mission 2023 is part of the CES Celebration for  UWeek 2023 of the College of Dentistry and the Master of Arts in Nursing.

The Dental Mission 2023 started with health assessment led by the Master of Arts in Nursing and a student volunteer from the College of Nursing.

The Dental Mission focused on tooth extraction of the Person’s Deprived of Liberty and students of UPHSD-BES.

The students of the College of Dentistry with the supervision of the two faculty were able to serve 75 PDLs.

The Industrial Engineering Department of the College of Engineering has been conducting free training sessions on Canvas Tote Bag Making for the beneficiaries. The aim is to empower them to establish their own businesses or find employment opportunities, thus alleviating their day-to-day living conditions and providing a source of livelihood. These training sessions will be conducted on a quarterly basis starting from the 2022-2023 school year, once the pandemic situation improves. In addition to the training provided to SAMABIDA Inc., faculty members, staff, and students will have the opportunity to share their knowledge of major Industrial Engineering subjects

The College of Engineering (Community Extension Services) activity pursues the improvement of its community by providing its beneficiaries SAMABIDA Inc. with free training and technical skill improvement.  Through the Outcome-Based Education, the faculty and students apply the concepts of Electronics and Communications Engineering on a Cellphone Repair to help the members of the community alleviate their standard of living because this skill can be utilized as an additional source of income for the families.

The College of Maritime Education in partnership with the Community Extension Services conducted seminars entitled “Familiarization of Fire Fighting and Prevention, and Proper Disposal of Garbage inside the New Bilibid Prison” on April 27, 2023 at 1:00 – 2:30pm at the UPHSD-BES Medium Security Compound, New Bilibid Prison, Muntinlupa City.

The presenters for the “Familiarization of Fire Fighting and Prevention” were students from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.

The Rank and File Employees Welfare Association, led by President Maria Loida S. Benosa, conducted the “Abot Kalinga ang Pagmamahal: Maagang Pamasko Handog Para sa Katutubong Mangyan” project.  This initiative is a collaboration with the Community Extension Services and in partnership with various colleges.

The eagerly awaited time of the year for the graduates of the University of Perpetual Help-Mindoro Mission School took another step towards higher learning. After 6 years of primary school education, bonding with classmates, friends and teachers, and spending time with their families, they are now moving on to secondary school.

The Community Extension Services Coordinating Council (CCC) and the Supreme Student Council (SSC) spearheaded the activity entitled “Undas Ayuda: Perpetualites for Typhoon Paeng Affected Communities 2022”, a donation drive that aims to collect ready-to-eat food items such as canned goods, noodles, rice, bottled water, hygiene products, and medical kits from all Perpetualites.

The Community Extension Services (CES) initiated this tree planting activity in Brgy. San Francisco, Lipa City, Batangas on 10 February 2023.  It is spearheaded by Dr Josephine P. Dasig, head of the Community Extension Services (CES).

The team planted a total of 450 mahogany saplings that will serve as a perimeter fence to protect the land.  Despite the scorching sun, the student volunteers enjoyed planting trees.

On January 6, 2023, the Community Extension Services (CES) team arrived at 4:30am at Daang Katutubo, Barangay Mapita, Aguilar, Pangasinan for a site inspection of the proposed tree planting activity of Dr. Vic Raciles, Prefect of Discipline and Research Assistant. Dr Raciles is the project leader of this tree planting activity in partnership with the community extension services.

One of the celebrations of the University Week is the Pasko sa Pebrero, an annual activity for the partner communities of the institution.  This year, the celebration was on February 17, 2023, various colleges participated in this activity, namely: College of Law, Computer Studies, Maritime Education, Education, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Radiologic Technology, Junior High School, and Senior High School.  Each college conducted seminars prior to the Mickey Mouse exchange of goods, gently used clothing and other items.

Part 2 of community sharing is gift-giving.  The Community Extension Services (CES) conducted the gift-giving on December 18, 2023 from 8:00am to 2:00pm at the Medium Security Compound, New Bilibid Prison, Muntinlupa City.

There were parlor games facilitated by the CES Coordinating Council headed by Ms. Janella Therese U. Orcine, President and Ms. Dorothy I. Capital, Secretary and also the Game Master.  The games were full of fun, laughter and happiness.

The Rank and File Employees Welfare Association (RFEWA) proposed this activity entitled, “Yes, I Do: A Mass Wedding on Valentine’s Day” with a theme of “Kasalang Perpetualista”.

One of the most important projects of the Employees Welfare Association for its members is to improve their research skills or knowledge.  Therefore, a seminar on basic research was organized.  This was held on March 22, 2024 at 1:00-4:00 pm at the New College Building Rm. 124.

The Seminar-Workshop on Basic Research is a joint effort of the Employees Welfare Association (EWA) and the Research and Development Center (R & DC) under the leadership of Dr. Belinda T. Conde.  She was assisted by Dr. Josephine P. Dasig, head of the Community Extension Services, who was also our resource speaker.

This year’s celebration includes Gift-giving activities, and various seminars.  The seminar on The True of Meaning of Christmas is led by Dr. Mary Josephine M. Duritan, the Program Chairperson of the Graduate School of Education and Dr. Armando Grata, a faculty of the Graduate School of Education.  They discussed the topic “The True Meaning of Christmas” to inspire the Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) students to continue celebrating and believing the essence of the season even they are away from home.

The recital and culminating activity program of the DALTA-JONELTA Foundation, Inc. headed by Dr. Ma. Consuelo C. Reyes, Executive Director/MAEQ in partnership with the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA-Community Extension Services led by Dr. Josephine P. Dasig, on May 21, 2024 at 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at NCB Rm. 124.  Indeed, a successful one.

The total number of beneficiaries was 17, aged 3 to 7 years
